do your dailies, get rep and then we’ll give you a job
I know that this post to some people might appear smug or big headed but forgive me. To the person who sent me this email, it might appear rude that I put this on the blog but again, well forgive me. I consider myself lucky to work at a place I love, to not be desperate for freelance jobs enough to actively seek them out. This to me means I can choose if I accept a job. This also means that if I do decide to take a job, I wont do what I do depending on the client’s budget, but I will do my best regardless of it.
For those who are not Greek here goes the translation:
Hello Maria,
We are a software company near Thesalloniki and we are currently looking for someone to work with, to create websites. We want to expand into the development of websites and we are looking for someone to work with on a permanent basis.
We saw your site and we liked your style a lot.
If you are interested send us a CV at [email.com] along with a collection of links with sites you have worked on
Regards
Nikos
As I responded to Nikos I find it insulting that someone would claim to “like my style” but hadn’t gone past the homepage or stayed long enough to see who I am or what I do. Slightly more insulting (and much more stupid) how do you offer someone a job without having checked out their work?
What sort of links did they expect me to send if not the ones on this website and what more would I include in a CV other than my work experience and skill and interests.
Just to be clear I do not believe that if I had actively seeked to work with them I would have not expected to submit the above information. I don’t automatically assume that everyone is aware of my site unless otherwise stated. After all I don’t think my readership & internet popularity is more than 5 individuals, which are either related to me or whom I pay.
I do think however that if you’ve found someone you are offering work to, you must have some good reasons, that you’ve done your homework and researched them and not because you simply saw a homepage and you liked it.
Even considering to get into the whole process just makes me feel [#geekalert: wow reference follows] like running dailies with all 6 80s, EVERY day, to get the rep to get items which aren’t even blue[/#geekalert] . Way more hassle than it’s worth.
After all, I work to live and not live to work.

What I find way off the mark for those guys is the simple fact that they actually claim to have visited this here site. How is it possible then, to miss the work/portfolio area? Especially if they want to *start* creating websites.
I loved your geek alert btw. I suddenly feel a longing to play Diablo II and hunt for set items. Unfortunately, WoW is a no-no for me if I want to work to live or live to live :P
(I just showed this email offer to a friend and he said “ti bozos!!“lol)
LOL @bozos, haven’t heard that for ages.
On a more serious note, that was the whole point of this entry, the fact that they couldn’t be bothered to look at the site but claimed they liked my “style”.
Like WTF?
PS: 210+ days /played between all my toons since WoW came out. Waaaaay too much time spent in Azeroth for someone who works as much as I do… Thank God I can leave it when I need/have to.
I really like your style. Will you work for me? I don’t know if you are a boy or a girl or even if you can do the job but i really like your style hehe!
Yeah people are losing it lately. :)
@Gerasimos: dear *you* at least should know that people lost it aaaages ago!
On another note, thinking about it, next time I’m in the job market I will submit pics of my shoes/accessories instead of a cv, it might work :P
