holidays over
So guys and gals, the holidays are over and I’m back to reality. “Kalo ximona” then as the say in Greece. I returned to the UK on Sunday night and thanks to the bank holiday weekend today is my second day at work. However I am still trying to adjust to reality as if I was gone for two months and not just two weeks. I have spent the last two days trying to reacquaint myself with projects I was working on before I left, getting to grips with the new svn server, updating projects, reading through a million emails.
The holiday though was great. I saw friends and family, I swam and sunbathed (and got a great tan in the process), ate loads of gorgeous food and came back feeling very very relaxed and energised.
- I read a lot. A lot of Greek books, loads of newspapers and magazines.
- I caught up with what has happened in Greece the last year as I found a load of newspaper supplements stored in the summer house. (thanks cousin!)
- I was shocked to see the destruction caused by last summer’s fires. Last year I left Greece on the day the fires in Ileia started so I’d only followed what was happening on tv. Still it was a very different thing seeing it with my own two eyes. If at the time i felt scared for my friends and family, now I felt shocked and depressed.
- I spent a total of 140 euros! for two weeks! Even I couldn’t believe it. Although other people were paying for me :P
- I swam morning and evening. The water was lovely, warm and crystal clear.
- I did not turn on my laptop once! or my phone! No facebook, twitter, WoW, feeds. Just checked my bank balance online once from my brothers laptop.
- I devoted time to myself, to my body and my mind. Got a nice funky haircut and peace of mind.
- I got to eat amazingly fresh organic produce and meat. All the vegetables and fruit was from my momma’s garden all the meat bought from family friends that keep animals. Mama’s mousaka, roast lamb and bbq pork chops where awesome!
- I DID eat souvlaki which although dirty and unhealthy was l33t!
- I only had 4 coffees in the whole two weeks. I usually have 4 coffees by 11am.
- I felt ultimately relaxed laying on the beach, watching and listening to the water.
- My blood iron levels hit a new low of 36, with normal levels between 70 – 160. In addition my endocrinologist gave me a bigger dose of thyroxin as my thyroid is becoming even more underactive.
- I did not think of work AT ALL.
- I stayed at our beach house overnight for the first time after a decade.
- I spent loads of time with my surrogate grandma and gossiped my heart out.
- I lost my digital camera so I did not take any pictures which saddened me a bit.
- I got loads of stimulation, visually, aurally, mentally from people, books and everywhere. This has brought back my inspiration and made my writer’s block vanish.
- I made plans, dreams and resolutions for the coming months as if it’s a new year.
All in all it was amazing. Worth the long wait and the money. Hear hear to a good and productive winter.
