hope & faith. YES he did!
He captured our imaginations, our minds and hearts. He seems to be intelligent, hard working, prepared to fight and set on change for the best, for his country and the world. His speech in S.Carolina after he won the primaries, the content of it as well as the passion and the conviction with which he delivered it, brought tears to my eyes at the time and still does every time I hear/read it.
He inspired us and filled us with hope. He connected with us through our own channels. Regardless of color, race, religion, sex or nationality.
He won the American people’s hearts and votes over a long-haul pre-election campaign and yesterday he was sworn as the 44th President of the United States.
Long Live Barack Hussein Obama. May he fulfill all the hopes and dreams he let us have, may he inspire and lead his country and the world.
PS: favorite bits from his inaugural speech [no specific order]
On this day, we gather because we have chosen hope over fear, unity of purpose over conflict and discord. On this day, we come to proclaim an end to the petty grievances and false promises, the recriminations and worn-out dogmas that for far too long have strangled our politics.
We’ll begin to responsibly leave Iraq to its people and forge a hard- earned peace in Afghanistan.
“And for those who seek to advance their aims by inducing terror and slaughtering innocents, we say to you now that, “Our spirit is stronger and cannot be broken. You cannot outlast us, and we will defeat you.”
“To the Muslim world, we seek a new way forward, based on mutual interest and mutual respect.
To those leaders around the globe who seek to sow conflict or blame their society’s ills on the West, know that your people will judge you on what you can build, not what you destroy.
To those who cling to power through corruption and deceit and the silencing of dissent, know that you are on the wrong side of history, but that we will extend a hand if you are willing to unclench your fist.
To the people of poor nations, we pledge to work alongside you to make your farms flourish and let clean waters flow; to nourish starved bodies and feed hungry minds.
And to those nations like ours that enjoy relative plenty, we say we can no longer afford indifference to the suffering outside our borders, nor can we consume the world’s resources without regard to effect. For the world has changed, and we must change with it.”
