the random post
Oh dear, I realised today it’s been a month since my last entry! Time does fly when you are having fun, working hard, or both as in my case. I have been finding it hard to make time to write in the blog when I’ve got so many things to do. I have about 10 different half-finished articles in the pipeline, most of them written in my notepad on the bus to/from work but can barely finish them off and post them here. Then the weekend comes and there’s more stuff to do, more people to see… I have also been trying to use Sundays as detox from my mac and t’internets so I can recharge my batteries for the next week.
However I’m not complaining. I’ve been keeping busy both with work and with some freelance jobies in order to finance my xmas holidays and a new mac. In addition to that I have been working on a redesign of this site [yes, again!] and another site I keep close to my heart, which have provided a lot of geeky fun, food for thought and space for experiments.
I have been working a lot with CSS3, xHTML5, different grids and playing with @font-face and I really hope to have some stuff to show you all soon. The whole process has been very exciting and interesting, sometimes making me feel like it’s 2003 again when I was learning about standards, table-less design, accessibility, browser wars. The learning process, the research and most of all the results make for a very, very satisfying experience for my inner geek.
My poor little brain can hardly imagine all the possibilities and opportunities coming up in the near future for web design and development. Many of the things we took for granted are a step away from becoming old skool and the walls of the “box” are shifting constantly. Trying to think out of the box is becoming that much more difficult and so much more challenging. I can also see the rewards becoming greater for those of us who enjoy a challenge. But all these are coming up in a next post near you soon.
Other stuff I’ve enjoyed recently though apart from the web have been games [I can see you smirking!] Some new stuff has hit our living room like COD MW2 and Left for Dead 2. Some old stuff has resurfaced like Monkey Island and Sim City 4. I’ve also been reading loads of books, watching reruns of House MD, Scrubs & NCIS. All these mostly on a Sunday when I’m nettoxing.
The next four weeks are going to be even busier. Since yesterday I have entered the final stretch before my holidays and I’m trying to organise stuff, get projects as close to completion as fast as possible and tentatively making plans for the new year and in the very back of my mind the new decade.
I am off work from December the 11th till January the 6th. Two of these weeks I will be visiting Greece, although I’ve been procrastinating and still haven’t booked my flight yet. Not only this but the plan is that I will try to go completely off grid for the entire time I’m going to be in Greece. No laptop, no twitter, no phone for two weeks. I do wonder if I’ll survive. Still I’m slightly more worried if I’ll survive having to work through 2 weeks+ email when I come back. It’s gonna be a huge challenge considering my twitter and information addiction.
On the other hand I’m so looking forward to some me time, chilling out, seeing my family, eating my moms supercalifragalistic cooking. Maybe meeting some of you guys too :) We should arrange a meetup / geekup when I’m in the motherland btw. With this I will love ya and leave y’all. Hope to have some cool stuff to share in the very near future.
