After reading about g.ho.st on the times online blog I decided to have a little play around with it and see what it’s all about. The g®eek in me was pleasantly surprised.
Although in alpha still it is quite fast, even on our office’s clogged lunchtime connection. It does feel and behave like a pc or shall I say workstation. Start menu, control panel, contextual menus are all present and correct, as is file management and transfer and basic apps like web browsing and instant messaging.
I enjoyed been able to change desktop backgrounds, connect to my documents on google and my twitter and had a go at storing files from my pc to ghost. I even managed to make it speak greek [localisation is possible to a variety of languages and settings] although in the real world I would never use an OS in greek as I simply don’t understand half the commands.
Even though I only had very little time to play around with it this lunchtime, I quite looking forward to see how it is going to evolve. Having my workstation online with all my apps, settings and files there and the ability to use all the online tools I normally use through the same interface seems quite an appealing idea. I can’t wait to have a more in depth look into little g.ho.st
