For a few months now I had been planning to redesign this website, visually and structurally. Work and personal commitments set this plan back a few months but I finally made the decision to go ahead.
To force me into doing things more organized and to stop me from procrastinating I moved the old site to the archives. You will still be able to find my ramblings from the last 3 years till the 18th of this month and the site as it was fully functional there. This move also serves the purpose of starting with a clean slate. No more patching around fixes and mistakes, no more fear to change something in case something else breaks.
Still I have kept the content areas and a lot of the “old” categories, as I wanted to keep the feel of the site and didn’t want you or myself for that matter to have to get used to a completely new architecture of information. After all I wanted an improved and updated version of the site and not something completely different.
One major change however will be the publishing platform that powers this site. All previous incarnations of this domain have been built on Wordpress. My love for WP is universally acknowledged and I will still be keeping all my other Wordpress sites running on it as I truly believe it to be one of the best tools around.
For this site though I have decided to switch over to Expression Engine. I have been using it a lot lately for work projects and have come to develop an affection to it. I like it a lot as a system which though easy to learn and use, it proves to have immense capabilities and seems to be flexible enough to turn to anything you want it to be. So I decided to use it on this site that has no spec, restriction or customer requirements, to get to know it even better, as the more I have been using it the more hidden beauties I discover.
I hope the journey that I embark on will be as rewarding and satisfying as the past three years. I hope you enjoy it too.
